National coverage from the perspective of a community that has reason to take American self-government seriously: many Romanian-Americans, or their parents and grandparents, lived under a government that permitted no opposition, no free press and no honest election.

What we cover

Congress, the administration, the federal courts, and the policy fights that reach into ordinary life — taxes, energy costs, immigration and legal admissions, small-business regulation, education, crime and public safety, and the constitutional questions underneath them. We also follow the mechanics of American elections, because the community that arrived here fleeing rigged ballots tends to care about how the ballots are counted.

Why this perspective is worth having

Romanian-Americans bring an unusual reference point to American political argument. Terms that circulate loosely in domestic debate — collectivization, censorship, secret police, one-party rule, currency collapse — are family history rather than abstraction for a large share of this community. That reference point does not settle any American policy question on its own. It does tend to sharpen the question.
