Editorial Standards

This page describes how we report, how we handle the organization directory, and what to do when we get something wrong.

Who we are

Romanian GOP is an independent publication covering American and Romanian politics for the Romanian-American community, from a Republican perspective. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or acting on behalf of the Republican National Committee, any state, county or territorial Republican Party organization, any campaign, or any candidate. Listing an organization in our directory does not imply that organization endorses or is associated with this site.

Perspective and accuracy

We do not pretend to lack a point of view; the name of the site announces it. A point of view is not a license to be wrong. We separate reporting from argument, we do not invent quotes or sources, and we do not publish a claim we have not checked because it happens to be convenient.

Sourcing

  • Primary documents — filings, agendas, minutes, official releases — over secondary accounts.
  • Named sources over anonymous ones. Anonymity is granted when a person faces a real cost for speaking, not for convenience.
  • A single anonymous tip is a lead, not a fact. It gets confirmed before it runs. See the tipline.
  • When we aggregate or excerpt another outlet’s reporting, we say so and link to it.

The organization directory

Our directory covers more than 3,200 Republican Party organizations — national, state, territorial, county and auxiliary. It was assembled largely from public records, and its entries differ enormously in how well confirmed they are. Rather than hide that, we label it. Every entry carries one of four verification tiers:

  • OFFICIAL — confirmed against the organization’s own official source.
  • CROSS-VERIFIED — confirmed against two or more independent sources.
  • SINGLE-SOURCE — drawn from one source that has not been independently confirmed.
  • UNVERIFIED — a skeleton record, generated from public patterns and not confirmed at all.

UNVERIFIED entries carry a visible caution label and should be confirmed before you rely on them — before showing up somewhere, before sending mail, before quoting a name. They are published rather than hidden because an incomplete map of local party organizations is more useful than no map, provided nobody mistakes it for a finished one.

Chair names appear only where they are publicly attested. An entry without a chair name means we do not have one we trust, not that the position is vacant. Data is refreshed periodically from the upstream dataset, so a recent change in a county committee may not appear immediately.

Corrections

We correct errors. Send the correction to (561) 702-9200 with enough detail for us to check it — for directory entries, the organization name, state, the field that is wrong, and the correct value. Substantive corrections to a published story are noted on the story rather than made silently.

Independence and funding

We do not accept payment to publish coverage, and we do not sell placement in the directory. If that ever changes, any paid or sponsored content will be labeled as such on the page where it appears.

Automation disclosure

Parts of the directory dataset were assembled and normalized with automated tooling. Automated assembly is what the verification tiers above exist to describe — a tier tells you how much human confirmation stands behind a given entry.
